Properties for sale in La Gomera

With a surface area of approximately 370 km², La Gomera has around 20,000 residents, most of whom live in and around San Sebastian, the island's capital.

The windier, more humid north features lush vegetation, while the southern side is slightly drier.

Holiday apartments and houses are concentrated around San Sebastian and the port, many of which enjoy pretty ocean views and large terraces. The wonderful Valle del Rey area is where most holiday makers head to and many visitors end up falling in love with this corner of the island and purchasing a home here. There are exclusive villas with private gardens and pools as well as smaller houses with dream-like views of the ocean and the rolling green hills and breathtaking rock formations. The golf courses are also surrounded by residential hubs where luxury lifestyle properties are sometimes available and the Playa de Santiago area is another favourite spot for property searchers in la Gomera.

Whether you are looking for a lock-up-and-go holiday apartment, a traditional Canarian house or a free-standing villa, our experienced estate agents at Lucas Fox can help you find the best property for you on this very special Canary Island.

La Gomera – An overview

The island can be reached via plane in 30 minutes from Tenerife North or by Ferry from Los Cristianos in Tenerife, arriving at the major port in San Sebastian. The lack of direct flights from other European countries is a blessing as it keeps La Gomera, a well protected gem, safely off the beaten tourist track.

A far cry from the tourist resorts on the larger Canary Islands, La Gomera is ideal for those that prefer tranquility and nature. The sub-tropical climate enjoyed in this part of the world makes it ideal for holidays all year round but, as the island does not offer long golden beaches or an overly dynamic nightlife scene, it has maintained its authentic essence and attracts visitors looking for alternative tourism that is respectful with the environment. La Gomera is not entirely without a social scene though and San Sebastian does have a smattering of bars and restaurants where you can try the traditional cuisine and mingle with the friendly locals as well as the international community that have made their homes here. No trip to La Gomera is complete without sampling the distinctive local wine accompanied by some delicious almogrote cheese spread, or trying the Miel de Palma, a honey extracted from palm trees is also a local specialty.

This unique little island has a distinct personality and quirky characteristic that make it very special such as the indigenous whistling language, known as Silbo Gomero, that was originally created to communicate across the deep ravines and mountains and that can still be heard today.
The mountainous character of much of the island means that it is a hiker's paradise. With lush forests and many hidden coves, La Gomera has so much to explore, and many of the most beautiful spots can only be reached on foot, protecting them from future development and exploitation.

Real estate in La Gomera is limited and at Lucas Fox we have a portfolio showcasing the very best homes available on the island.
