Everything you need to know about this castle / palace sold

A work of art in the heart of Catalonia, in the capital of the Alt Camp region, Valls, and more specifically in its historic centre, it was built by the architect Pere Domènech i Roura (architect of the Estadi Olímpic LLuís Companys and one of the builders of the National Palace of Catalonia (MNAC) and of three pavilions of the Hospital de Sant Pau in Barcelona. The estate was built between 1942 and 1944 by commission of a private family for use as a private residence, distributed over 6 floors. At first glance, the elegant façade built with stone ashlars and alabaster and marble balustrades stands out, which give the building an invaluable extra artistic value, both exterior and interior, since the best artists collaborated in its construction and ornamentation. of the moment, the same ones who worked for Lluís Domènech i Muntaner, father of Pere Domènech i Roura.

From the main door on the ground floor there is access to an elegant lobby, an operational wooden elevator, an oratory / chapel, an office, and a unique central staircase, similar to the current one in the “Parliament of Catalonia” where Pere Domènech left his signature. in bronze. In the house's oratory, the alabaster altarpiece with an oil painting by Labarta (Palau Nacional, Hospital de Sant Pau) stands out; works by Josep Dunyach (Palau Nacional, Plaza Catalunya) and Cuyás decorate the hall of lost steps and others by Federico Marés (Monastery of Poblet, Sta María del Mar) adorn the hall of the house, in addition, in the office, highlights a bronze by Georges Bareau (facade of the Grand Palais in Paris and museum in Copenhagen). This floor is completed with a commercial premises with direct access to C / De La Cort.

The first, main floor, houses the day area with a spectacular hall, a living room, a large living-dining room and the kitchen. In addition to a reading room and an office. On the second floor, the private rooms are distributed, with their respective bathrooms and dressing rooms, and a generous covered solarium. These last plants present delicate and abundant works in various types of stone, especially alabaster and marble, and a vast array of artistic glass. The third floor has other rooms and more rooms with their respective bathrooms, for the accommodation of service personnel and large pantry areas. On the top floor of the building, there is a large solarium and terrace with a garden, fountains and beautiful pergolas built to decorate a unique space for recreation and relaxation. Next to this large terrace there is a dovecote, a washing area and a cupola with a viewpoint. On the lower floor there is a large garage, the central heating boiler and a wine cellar richly decorated with mosaics, objects and wall paintings alluding to the room and to the period. A beautiful carved glass and wood elevator by ERSCE, which worked for Gaudí, is in operation and preserves the same systems and mechanisms of the time. The building stands out for its beauty in the wall decorations of Vilaró i Valls (LLeó Morera) and Pey (Parliament of Catalonia and Barcelona City Council), many of stucco ironed on fire and others painted in tempera; the crystals, by Granell y Cía (Palau de la Música, Hospital de Sant Pau), and very varied techniques: leaded, carved, painted, bent or acid-etched; the marbles on the floors are artistically placed by architect's design and often inlaid in brass. The architectural wealth of Valls, with works recognized and distributed throughout its territory by Gaudí's disciple, Cèsar Martinell, is joined by its culture, the “Calçots” and the construction of human towers or “castells”, declared Intangible Heritage by UNESCO.
