Goya, Madrid: Location and surroundings of this property

The Salamanca district is internationally known for its Golden Mile: a fashion benchmark, spread along Ortega y Gasset Street and surrounding areas, where we can find boutiques of great designers. It is worth walking through the windows of its haute couture and accessories stores, shoe stores, jewelry stores and luxury watch stores to be shocked by the prices (buying something here is not for everyone's budget). Art collectors also find their place in this district, which concentrates several art galleries and auction houses around Villanueva Street.

Not everything in the Salamanca district, however, is for wealthy people. Culture is for everyone, and the area offers several highly recommended visits. Firstly, the National Archaeological Museum, reopened in 2014 after a thorough refurbishment, brings together thousands of Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Iberian pieces of great value, among which its collection of vessels from Ancient Greece, the Guarrazar treasure - a prodigy of Visigothic goldsmithing - and, above all, the Lady of Elche. The second great attraction of the neighbourhood is the Lázaro Galdiano Museum, located in an old mansion that exhibits the vast artistic legacy of this art critic, who left the State treasures such as Hieronymus Hieronymus and Goya's Coven.

Fans of contemporary art and chamber music will be able to find a wide range of temporary exhibitions and concerts at the Juan March Foundation, while those who want to better understand the culture of the Netherlands have an appointment at the Carlos de Antwerp Foundation. Founded in 1594 as a hostel for pilgrims from this region, then under the rule of the Spanish Empire, the institution treasures The Martyrdom of Saint Andrew, a masterpiece by Rubens. On a cultural level, the district also hosts the Wizink Center – the former Sports Palace –, a regular venue for basketball games and concerts by international artists.

Finally, the Salamanca district is Madrid's centre of avant-garde cuisine. In its streets you can find several Michelin stars, including the Ramón Freixa Madrid - with two - located in the Único hotel; Zalacaín, which has been committed to traditional haute cuisine since 1973; and the Japanese-Mediterranean Kabuki Wellington. There are many others, without a star but equally appetizing, who are committed to reinventing international cuisines such as Peruvian (Virú) or Mexican (Punto MX). Finally, it is worth highlighting gastronomic markets such as La Paz and Platea, with a wide range of delicatessens for the most demanding gourmets.

The two Cercanías Madrid stations that serve the district are the Recoletos and Nuevos Ministerios stations located under Paseo de Recoletos and the other under Paseo de la Castellana, on the western edge of the district. In them you can take trains on lines C-1, C-2, C-7, C-8 and C-10 and on the other lines C-1, C-2, C-3, C-4, C-7, C-8 and C-10.
