Fuenterrabia is a small city located in the Txingudi Bay, formed by the mouth of the Bidasoa River. It is the last city of the state, since on the other side of the river you can see the French coast of Hendaye. Due to its strategic location, Fuenterrabia enjoyed important cultural and economic benefits over the centuries, and is part of Euskal Herria, that is, the territory between Spain and France in which Basque culture has developed.

Originally the town was built on a small promontory overlooking the bay, at the foot of Mount Jaizkibel, but it gradually expanded towards the coast. Today, it is possible to identify the lively old quarter from the more modern part that is located at the foot of the promontory.
